The Rev. Charles Cochran has served as pastor of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Charleroi since October 2013.
Pastor Charlie is a second-career minister, having served more than 20 years as a newspaper editor and reporter. He last practiced print journalism for the Savannah (Georgia) Morning News, where he was hired in May 1997 to open a news bureau in Effingham County just outside Savannah. He held an assortment of newsroom roles over nine years with the newspaper.
Pastor Charlie is a 2007 graduate of Erskine Theological Seminary in Due West, South Carolina. In July 2007, he was ordained as a minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
His background as a minister includes a stint as pastor of First Christian Church (DOC) of Augusta, Ga., and a year-long residency in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Although he is a product of our nation’s southland, he has fallen in love with the people and the rolling hills of southwestern Pennsylvania. He cannot currently imagine living any other place.
He is married to Laurie Ash Cochran, who teaches special education. They have two adult sons, and they live in Monongahela with a beautiful calico cat, Maple.
